Crash after woman threatened may be linked to family row

A ‘family dispute’ on Christmas Day may have formed the background to an incident where a woman was forced into a car by three men, neighbours claim.

The woman, in her 60s, was reportedly ‘threatened’ and then forced from her Kirkby home and into an Audi TT by a group of men last night.

The Audi was then involved in a crash.

The woman who was forced into the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Audi was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences and taken into custody for questioning.

This morning forensic officers were working at the woman’s house on Cleveland Close, a residential street near Glovers Brow.

There was still a Christmas tree in the window of the house.

Shocked locals told the ECHO that a family dispute might have been behind the incident.

One man said: “I heard its a family thing. A family dispute on Christmas day. That kind of thing.”

Another neighbour told the ECHO that there had been some kind of incident in Cleveland Close last night, but did not want to say anymore about it.

Locals said that there was a girl in the house when the woman was forced into the Audi.

A neighbour said: “It’s so shocking.”

Some neighbours said they heard a bang in the close last night.

It was thought to be the sound of a collision – the Audi iTT  is said to have scraped a parked car before it drove off from the scene.

There was evidence of a serous car accident nearby on Bank Lane.

There were deep tyre marks on a grass verge and car parts scattered at the scene. But it is not yet clear if the scene was linked to last night’s police incident.

Police have said that the incident in Cleveland Close happened at around 9pm last night.
