Coronavirus LIVE: UK deaths rise to 422 as lockdown ‘set to last longer than 3 weeks’

EIGHTY-EIGHT more people have died today in the UK, taking the death toll up to 422.

This comes after the UK woke up to lockdown this morning – after Boris Johnson declared a “moment of national emergency”.

Although a 3 week lockdown has been put into force by the Boris, Brits could be on lockdown for much longer.

Northern Irish First Minister Arlene Foster said if she had to bet on it, she would say the lockdown would go on past Easter.

No10 aides told The Sun last night the shut-down was likely to be extended into May and possibly June unless virus fatalities substantially fall.

People will only be allowed to leave their home for essential supplies, one form of daily exercise or a walk, medical care or “absolutely necessary” work.

Anyone caught flouting the measures faces a fine of between £30 and £1,000 from Thursday, when a bill containing the new legislation to deal with coronavirus is expected to become law.
