A man was allegedly seen masturbating as he drove his Vauxhall Astra along the M6 motorway.

Police said they were alerted to the incident when a lorry driver saw him and reported him.

He was then pulled over by officers in an unmarked police car, who also ‘observed him carrying out the act’.

The Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) said the motorist stopped around four miles away from where he was first seen.

In a tweet confirming details of the incident, the CMPG said the man was initially spotted near Wednesbury, West Midlands, and brought to a halt near Great Barr.

The tweet read: ‘HGV driver informed us that he’d seen a car driver on M6 at J9 masturbating whilst driving! Unmarked police car spotted offender going through J7 … his pleasure was short lived and he was dealt with accordingly! We must point out it’s not only illegal but highly dangerous!’

A reply to the tweet asked the CMPG if a driver could be dealt with ‘on the say so of a random truck driver’.

The CMPG’s official account then responded: ‘Driver was observed carrying out the act by police officers following the call from the HGV driver.’

A police spokesman said: ‘A 57-year-old man in a Vauxhall Astra was stopped at around 9.15am today.

‘He was reported for driving without due care and attention and not having proper control of a vehicle.’
