Prince Harry brought own security team as he flew from US for Philips funeral

Prince Harry brought his own security team as he flew in from the US for his granddad’s funeral, according to reports.

The Duke of Sussex, who alongside wife Meghan Markle was stripped of protection when he stepped back from royal life, was then met by Metropolitan Police officers upon his arrival in London.

According to the Telegraph, the 36-year-old flew in with his security team, who were with him on a British Airways flight from Los Angeles, US.

They were then met by Scotland Yard officers upon his arrival at Heathrow airport ahead of Prince Philip’s funeral last Saturday.

That despite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex being stripped of round-the-clock personnel when they announced they would be stepping back as senior members of the Royal Family in January last year.

One senior policing source told the paper: “Like any high profile individual an assessment will be made to assess the risk and threat and in the circumstances there will be no question that the Duke is afforded personal protection.

“Given that he will be in quarantine for most of the time and then is attending a private funeral service, the issue is also a very simple one.”

It is understood Harry flew back to his home in Santa Barbara, California, on Monday, to reunite with heavily pregnant Meghan and son Archie, one.

The Duchess of Sussex, 39 and who is due to give birth in the next month, was advised by doctors not to make the trip due to her condition and remained at the couple’s £11million Montecito mansion.

It was the first time Harry returned to the UK since the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview in which he and Meghan accused the royal family of racism.

They also alleged the Duchess of Sussex was left to her own devices when she had suicidal thoughts while at the palace and pregnant with Archie.

The couple told the chat show star during the CBS interview streamed in March that their security had been stripped away after their move to the US.

They accused Buckingham Palace of failing to protect their son by taking away their security.

Harry said the couple’s multimillion pound deals with Netflix and Spotify were “never part of the plan”, but they needed cash to pay for protection.

He added: “That was suggested by somebody else by the point of where my family literally cut me off financially, and I had to afford security for us.”

The Duke of Sussex said he was completely reliant on money left by his late mother, Princess Diana, after he was “cut off financially” when he stepped back from royal duties.

He said he and Meghan “genuinely hadn’t thought” about cutting streaming deals, but added: “And look, from my perspective, all I needed was enough money to be able to pay for security to keep my family safe.”
