Wales set to reach 28°C in autumn heatwave as schools go back

Temperatures in Wales are set to hit 28°C on Tuesday with a warm spell likely to last at least through the early part of the week.

The Met Office is forecasting warm temperatures across the country on Monday leading to many places feeling hot through a sunny and dry afternoon.

A similar outlook is predicted for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with the weather likely feeling “very warm or hot” before the weather becomes more unsettled through to the end of the week.

The Met Office had previously indicated Wales would see a September heat blast and it appears that will begin on Monday.

The Met Office forecast for Monday is: “Low cloud and drizzle will clear through Monday morning to leave a sunny and dry afternoon. Feeling very warm or locally hot, with light winds. Maximum temperature 26 °C.”

The outlook for Tuesday to Thursday says: “Early fog patches quickly clearing to sunshine on Tuesday. Initially sunny but breezy on Wednesday, then scattered showers possible, some heavy. Sunshine and showers on Thursday. Very warm or hot.”

Cardiff

A foggy start to the day on Monday will make way for clear skies and sunshine throughout the afternoon in Cardiff. It is set to reach 25°C between the hours of 4pm and 6pm.

Conditions should remain dry overnight and heading into Tuesday another clear and sunny day with temperatures reaching 25°C by 1pm and climbing to 26°C by 4pm.

Wednesday looks a little more unsettled with cloudier skies but temperatures will remain warm and around 23-24°C from midday to the late afternoon.

On Thursday things are set to take another turn with rain through the early hours of the morning. Sun and showers are forecast between 1pm and 7pm but temperatures remain warm at around 20°C.

It will be a drier start to the day on Friday with the sun peeking from behind the clouds before sun and showers are set to return on Friday afternoon. Temperatures remain around 20°C.

Saturday, while dry, is likely to be cloudy with temperatures hanging around the 19°C mark.

It will be a foggy start to the day on Monday with the skies clearing up by 12pm. There will be sunshine throughout the remainder of the afternoon and temperatures are set to reach 22°C at their warmest between 4pm and 6pm.

Clear skies overnight make way for a bright and sunny day on Tuesday where temperatures will likely reach 25°C by 4pm.

Things look a little unsettled on Wednesday with a 10% chance of rain through most of the day before heavy showers are set to hit by 7pm. Temperatures will still hover around the 22°C mark.

The rain will likely stick around through the evening through to Thursday with sunshine and showers predicted all day. Temperatures will be around 19°C.

It’s a similar outlook on Friday with sun and showers due through the whole day before things will likely clear up by 7pm. Temperatures will remain around 19°C..

Saturday is a little more settled with less sunshine and more cloud coverage but a small chance of rain. Temperatures will again be around 19°C.

A cloudy start to the day on Monday will make way for some spells of sunshine into the afternoon but skies won’t completely clear until around 3pm. Temperatures will be a little cooler with highs of 19°C.

A settled night will make way for a brighter Tuesday with sunny skies all day and temperatures expected to reach 24°C at 4pm.

On Wednesday cloud should return but there will be some sunny spells in the morning and sun and showers through to the evening. Temperature highs will be 21°C.

Thursday is set to be a little more unsettled with rain from overnight making its way through the day until about 4pm when things should clear. There will be some sunny intervals and temperatures should be around 19°C.

Friday is set to be another day of mixed sunny spells and showers with highs of 19°C.

Saturday should remain dry with some sunny spells through the morning. Temperatures will be around 18°C.

Aberystwyth

It will be a slightly wet start to the day on Monday with rain forecast between 8am and 10am. Things will clear up and make way for a day of sunny intervals where temperatures will reach 20°C.

Aberystwyth will likely see the hottest temperatures in Wales on Tuesday with clear skies forecast all day. By 4pm forecasters predict temperatures of 28°C..

It will be another hot day on Wednesday with clear skies and sunny intervals. Temperatures should be around 25°C.

Things will take a turn on Thursday with rain from the early hours of the morning through to about 7am. Sunny showers will return throughout the afternoon but temperatures will be around 20°C.

Friday is another similar day of sun and showers predicted throughout with temperatures around 19°C.

Saturday is set to be much drier with sunny intervals and temperatures around 19°C.

Newtown

Some rain is predicted for Monday morning at 9am in Newtown but it is set to be shortlived with sunny intervals predicted for the remainder of the day. Temperatures will likely reach 24°C.

A foggy start to the day on Tuesday will make way for a day full of bright sunshine where temperatures will likely creep up to 26°C by 4pm.

It will be another bright and sunny day on Wednesday with temperatures reaching 26°C at 4pm.

Things will take a turn on Thursday with sun and showers predicted throughout the day though it will still be warm with temperatures around the 22°C mark.

It will be a cloudier start on Friday with sunny intervals throughout the day and a little bit cooler at around 20°C at the warmest.

Saturday is set to be another dry but cloudy day with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 19°C.

It will be a mostly overcast day in Wrexham on Monday but temperatures will still creep up to the 23°C mark by around 3pm.

Early morning fog on Tuesday will clear by 10am and make way for a bright and hot day where temperatures could reach 27°C.

Another clear and sunny day on Wednesday will follow with temperatures creeping up to 26°C.

Things will be a little wetter on Thursday with sun and showers predicted throughout most of the day but temperatures will still be warm at around 22°C.

Friday should be drier with sunny intervals through the clouds and temperatures hovering around 20°C.

On Saturday it is set to be dry with some sunshine peaking through the clouds through the day and temperatures around 19°C.

Holyhead

Monday will see a cloudy start to the day in Holyhead with the sun set to make an appearance around 2pm. Temperatures won’t climb as high as everywhere else and will likely be around 18°C.

Tuesday is set to be much better with clear skies predicted all day and temperatures creeping up to 24°C.

Wednesday is due to be another clear day with temperatures reaching 24°C once again.

Rain from the early hours of the morning on Thursday will stick around as sun and showers throughout the day and temperatures will be around 19°C..

It will be a wetter start to the day on Friday with heavy rain due at around 7am. Sun and showers will take over most of the morning but should dry up towards the late afternoon where temperatures will reach 18°C.

A dry but cloudier day is due on Saturday with some sunny intervals through the afternoon. Temperatures will be around 17°C.
